Final Chapter at the Jake

On an evening that served as a microcosm for the 2006 season (moments of excitement and promise, but ultimately short-lived optimism and, finally, disappointment), I have left Jacobs Field for the last time.

The next time I walk into the structure at the corner of Prospect and Ontario, it will no longer welcome me to “the Jake”; it will be “the Key” or “National City Field” or something else that will make us long for the originality (even if it was fan-created) of lovingly giving an identity to the ballpark.

Much more to come later in the week, but here’s the highlight of the last night - Big League Choo comes out to the song, “Trying to Catch Me Riding Dirty” by Chamillionaire.

There may not be anything funnier that has happened at the Jake this season.

A whole Hot Stove League off-season full of conjecture and second-guessing looms, but as the rain fell while we made our way out of the park, The DiaBride expressed the thoughts of Clevelanders everywhere:

“There’s always next year…right?”

amen. allelujah. i said the same as i left the bleachers last night with diagirlfriend. oh my, that in no way has the same ring as diabride. i'll have to work on that one. my only regret about the 2006 season is that i didnt attend a game with mr. diatribe himself this year. unless that can happen on or before sunday, i will go to my grave with said regret.

now i know "married" and "responsible" people have better things to do with their time, especially with diababies on the way, but in the name of louis sockalexis, i propose two things:

a: 2007 diatribe fantasy league. AL only (2nd or 4th request, i'll have to scan the archives).

b: diatribe weekend 2007 at [insert sponsor here] [insert name for a baseball field here], formerly known as jacobs field. the schedule is out. we can schedule WAY in advance. we should in theory know about weddings we need to know about and whatnot. LET'S DO THIS!!!

c: tabler drops the cause for the C hat with the tiny chief on it. i'll never jump aboard.

d: to sir sniffs alot... i have nothing good to say to you. that is all. t-bone out.

fanstasy league might be tricky. there might be some hard feelings when someone realizes we can't all get Grady Sizemore.

i haven't considered fantasy baseball for some time, due to the fact that i have enough going on in the summer without having to change my pitchers and lineup each day due to off days. this was quite a few years ago, are there any better formats where you aren't constantly juggling this stuff daily?

also, i wholeheartedly support the diatribe weekend. even if its just a saturday night game.

select road journals would also be cool. we need the baltimorian's ramblings from camden yards.
